I present to you my new album, Letter to Milos, conceived during the last and a half year, which is my musical statement in 2022. I have created it along with my fellow travel companions in Talismán (2020) and Ravel's Dreams (2017): Aleix Tobias on drums and a thousand percussions, and Martín Meléndez on cello, unraveling resources, colors and nuances as only they know.

Letter to Milos is not only a love letter to my son in his first year of life: it is the heartfelt testimony of what —I feel— best describes myself artistically, today.

I have poured the lyricism that inhabits me, and my many convictions into the music herein: from my declared love of tonality to the liberty of free, creating a crossroad between the joy that I find in the composition of small pieces, and improvisation and the spirit of playing.

In Letter to Milos we explore new paths and sounds: the meditative and hypnotic depth of “Nacimiento” or “Infinito”, the power and groove of “Charrada de la vida” or “Sonajero”, the progressive pop of “El Cielo en tus Brazos ”, the nod to blues and circus in “Percebes y zamburiñas”, the minimal punk in “Pauta completa”, and the edges of free in “Onírico” and “Umbilical”; we pay tribute to various forms of Iberian music (corrido maragato, ajechao, sorteao y bulería) with “Pandero Suite”, created together with Aleix Tobias; we let ourselves go in the subtle and naive melody of “El beso” by Martín Meléndez and “Lluminosa” dedicated to Silvia Pérez Cruz, we invented our particular syncretism, mixing Cuban son and Brazilian samba, in “Passarinho”; “Letter to Milos” and “Milos Smiles” are the marks of my love of romanticism (with a subtle tribute to Brahms) and jazz standards, respectively.

Here goes my musical letter, from me to you; and I wish you enjoy it.

Os presento mi nuevo disco, Letter to Milos, gestado durante el último año y medio, y que es mi declaración musical en este 2022. Lo he creado junto a mis compañeros de viaje en Talismán (2020) y Ravel’s Dreams (2017): Aleix Tobias a la batería y mil percusiones, y Martín Meléndez al violonchelo, desgranando recursos, colores y matices como únicamente ellos saben.

Letter to Milos no es solamente una carta de amor a mi hijo en su primer año de vida: es el sentido testimonio de lo que —siento— mejor me describe artísticamente, hoy.

En el disco he volcado el lirismo que me habita, y mis muchas convicciones: desde mi declarado amor a la tonalidad hasta la libertad del free, reuniendo el disfrute que encuentro en la composición de pequeñas piezas con la improvisación y el espíritu de juego.

En Letter to Milos exploramos nuevos y diversos caminos y sonoridades: la profundidad meditativa e hipnótica de “Nacimiento” o “Infinito”, la potencia y groove de “Charrada de la vida” o “Sonajero”, el pop progresivo de “El cielo en tus brazos”, el guiño al blues y lo circense de “Percebes y zamburiñas”, el punk minimal de “Pauta completa”, y las orillas del free de “Onírico” y “Umbilical”, rendimos tributo a diversos palos de la música ibérica (corrido maragato, ajechao, sorteao y bulería) con “Pandero Suite”, creada junto a Aleix Tobias; nos dejamos ir en la melodía sutil y naíf de “El beso” —de Martín Meléndez— y “Lluminosa” dedicada a Silvia Pérez Cruz; inventamos nuestro sincretismo particular, mezclando son cubano y samba brasileño, en “Passarinho”; “Letter to Milos y “Milos Smiles” son las marcas de mi amor al romanticismo (con un sutil tributo a Brahms) y a los standards de jazz, respectivamente.

Allí viaja mi carta musical, Letter to Milos, de mí hacia vosotros; y deseo que la disfrutéis.

私の新しいアルバム『Letters to Milos』へようこそ。2022年において私が音楽で伝えたいメッセージを込めながら、この１年半にわたってつくりあげた作品です。前作『Ravel’s』(2017)、前々作『Talismán』(2020)でも音楽の旅を共にしたふたりの仲間も参加してくれました。ドラムスと多種多様なパーカッションはアレイクス・トビアス、そしてチェロはマルティン・メレンデスです。自分たちだけが知っている色やニュアンスを紐解きながら表現していくことでこのアルバムができあがりました。

『Letters to Milos』は、この世に生を受けて１年目の我が息子Milosへの愛の手紙であるとともに、現在の私自身を芸術的に最もよく表現している(と私が感じる)、心からの「証言」のようなアルバムです。

私のなかに宿る叙情そして幾多の信念をこのアルバムの音楽に注ぎ込みました。

私が愛する調性的な音楽から、フリーならではの自由さまで。私自身が作曲そして即興や演奏というそれぞれの場面において感じる喜びを交錯させた作品となりました。

このアルバムで、私達は新しく多様な道と音を探索しています。瞑想的で催眠術にかかったかのような深みをもつ「Nacimiento」そして「Infinito」。パワーとグルーヴ満載の「Charrada de la vida」と「Sonajero」。「El Cielo en tus Brazos」はプログレッシブ・ポップ、「Percebes y zamburiñas」はブルースとサーカスそのものです。「Pauta completa」にはミニマル・パンクの要素を込めて、「Onírico」「Umbilical」ではフリーの最先端まで冒険しています。アレイクス・トビアスとともにつくりあげた「Pandero Suite」にはあらゆるイベリア音楽(corrido maragato, ajechao, sorteao y bulería)へのオマージュを捧げています。そしてマルティン・メレンデスがつくった「El Beso」とシルビア・ペレス・クルスに捧げた「Lluminosa」の繊細かつナイーヴな旋律に身を任せました。「Passarinho」では、私達は自分たちならではの方法でキューバの伝統音楽のソンとブラジルのサンバを混ぜ合わせてみました。「Letter to Milos」と「Milos Smiles」はそれぞれロマン主義（かすかにブラームスへのトリビュートも込められています）とジャズスタンダードへの愛のしるしです。

私からみなさんへお贈りする音楽の手紙をどうかおたのしみください。
